We Werfenwengers love to go for a walk. Anyone who knows our small village in the middle of the countryside will hardly be surprised. Passionate walkers explore the region best on the twelve varied kilometres of the Spazierhimmel, which means as much as walking heaven. In the morning, in the evening, in between or even romantically in the moonlight.
IN NATURE WITH DELICACIES FROM NATURE
Local delicacies from the farm shop are the ideal accompaniment for a walk. At least until you find the perfect vantage point for your picnic. Don’t forget: After the meal, take a pleasant rest or take another 1,000 steps straight away.
Tip: Should the weather not cooperate, the Raststadel offers a dry place to feast and enjoy!
ONLY NATURE INSTEAD OF A NETWORK CULTURE
Give your beloved smartphone a break. If you really want to slow down, block out work and simply be unreachable, leave your smartphone in the hotel room or switch it off whilst you go for a walk. Don’t worry, the friendliness of Werfenweng will gladly show you the way instead of a navigation app.
Tip: One exception is allowed: Be sure to take a selfie with the mountains in the background! The “Eiskögel mountains” are simply magical!
ESPECIALLY APPEALING IN SUMMER: DON´T WEAR ANY SHOES
This stimulates the most sensitive parts of your body and lets you feel the elements directly. The path leads over soft moss, cool wet and soft grass, where you become one with nature.
Tip: Dirty feet are best held in one of the cool streams along the walking paths: Cleansing and refreshing!
PURIFIED AIR WITH A UNIQUE FRAGRANCE
When raindrops tap on the window, it’s high time to put on your waterproof underwear. Only now does the meditative soundscape combined with the clearest air await. Top rule: If you want to jump in puddles, bring wellies!
Tip: We won’t leave you out in the rain: If you don’t have an umbrella with you, you can buy one from us at the tourist office!
LISTENING TO THE SOUND OF LIFE
Conscious listening allows us to experience the orchestra of nature with true surround sound. It is best to close your eyes so that wind chimes, birdsong and rushing streams can unfold their pure effect. If you have a trusted companion, you can be guided through the concert blindfolded.
Tip: The streams in Werfenweng are at their most beautiful in spring when the ice-cold meltwater comes down from the mountains!
SUNSET BRINGS A MAGNIFICENT CURTAIN OF COLOR
Late summer and fall never fail to delight the eye. When the sun sets at the end of the day, the mountains glow in the most radiant colors. Despite its daily repetition, the natural spectacle never gets boring. And if you get to the viewpoint earlier, you can enjoy the spectacle a little longer.
WHEN THE FLAKES DANCE, EVERYONE CAN BE LURED OUT FROM BEHIND THE STOVE
When it snows, the living room is always empty in record time. No wonder, as snow crystals have to be caught with the tongue, snowmen built and snowball fights fought.
Tip: Snow angels are still a big hit! Simply lay them down in the fresh snow and get started with arms and legs…
ON THE PATHS AND BESIDE THEM, WILD ANIMAL TRACKS MAKE THE HEART TREMBLE
If you wander carefully through the quiet snowy landscape, you can discover more. Hares, deer and foxes use the freshly fallen flakes as a canvas for special paintings during their excursions. Preserve the artwork, but don’t forget to take a photo with you!
Tip: Back in the living room, an animal identification book will turn the treasures from your walk into a real goldmine.
IN THE MIDST OF THIS WONDERFUL TIME, A SPECIAL ATMOSPHERE IS CREATED
The sparkle of the magical winter landscape is only really beautiful in the run-up to Christmas thanks to the countless lights, candles and decorative stars. Whether during the day or in the early evening hours: Now is the ideal time to count the stars.
Breathe in nature and
breathe out the stress of everyday life.
Experience magical forests, dreamy streams and the soothing tranquillity of the countryside. The good old walk not only increases well-being, but also has the potential to strengthen your health in the long term. As an added bonus, walking makes you fit and relieves stress.

Walking with Waltraud
