Travelling with children to Werfenweng

Situated only 45 kilometres south of Salzburg, Werfenweng is easily accessible via the A10 motorway. This is particularly advantageous if you are travelling with children and siblings and therefore prefer to take your own car rather than the train. The good news: The environmentally conscious holiday is still possible. Once you arrive, you can leave your car untouched for the whole holiday thanks to our sophisticated mobility offers.

From September 2023 to June 2025, the 14-kilometre-long tunnel chain on the A10 between Golling and Werfen will be renovated. The 5 tunnels (Ofenauer, Hiefler, Brentenberg, Zetzenberg and Helbersberg tunnels) will be renovated at the same time, meaning that only one lane can be used on the entire construction section. This can lead to traffic jams and resulting blockages. Find out here about the current traffic situation on the A10 motorway in the roadworks area.

Travelling by car

Coming from Salzburg / Munich:

Via the Tauern motorway (A10) exit Pass Lueg (exit Werfen closed until July 2025 due to roadworks), through Werfen to Werfenweng

Coming from Villach:

via the Tauern motorway (A10) exit Pfarrwerfen / Werfen, to Werfenweng

On very busy travelling days we recommend the following alternative routes due to the tunnel renovation:

  1. From eastern Austria: via A9 – Liezen – Ennstal Bundesstraße to Radstadt/Altenmarkt – Bischofshofen – Werfenweng
  2. From Germany via Passau: via Linz – Voralpenkreuz – A9 – Liezen – Ennstal Bundesstraße to Radstadt/Altenmarkt – Bischofshofen – Werfenweng
  3. From Germany via Munich (only on snow-free roads!): via ‘kleines Deutsches Eck’ – Bad Reichenhall – Schneizlreuth – Lofer – Saalfelden – Dienten – Bischofshofen – Werfenweng
