Tour description
The starting point is the Wengerau. Continue to the right across the alpine pasture, then into the forest. From the forest, take the left-hand path with wooden steps past the Dr.-Heinrich-Hackel hut and the Tauernkogel to the exposed but secured “Stieglloch”. You reach the Eiskogel via the Tauernscharte. From the Eiskogel downhill to the Schartwand junction, continue to the summit of the Schartwand. Follow the same path back to the Tauernscharte, where the path to the Tauernkogel branches off to the left.
Sure-footedness and a head for heights are required!
