Summit Tour “Tennengebirge Plateau Circuit”

Tour description

The starting point is the Wengerau (D3). Pass the Wengerau-Alm and the Gamsblickalm, after 500 metres take the steep footpath past the Elmaualm (shortly afterwards last opportunity to fill up water supplies) and the Werfener Hütte. From there, head towards Thronleiter/Edelweißhütte on a narrow, partly exposed path. After the Thronleiter ladder (60 rungs, 20 metres high) there is a small step, then you continue briefly on the steel rope. In the gap behind the Großes Fieberhorn, the path comes up from the Grießscharte – continue to the Edelweißhütte (emergency shelter – last shelter possibility until the Dr.-Heinrich-Hackel-Hütte), which is located on the Mittleren Streitmandl. From there, the trail goes up and down across the high plateau of the Tennengebirge. After the Happischhaus junction, continue in an easterly direction, behind Schubbühel, after the Bleikogel-Laufenerhütte junction, head south. Past the Eiskögeln, the trail goes between Napf and Tauernkogel through the Tauernscharte to the Dr.-Heinrich-Hackel-Hütte. From there it goes down to the starting point in the Wengerau.
Very demanding mountain tour for those with good physical condition (mountain experience, sure-footedness and a head for heights are absolutely essential here). The tour should be well planned in any case (stable, good weather conditions – orientation is very difficult in fog), clothing and stamina should be suitable. It is advisable to talk to your landlord to assess your suitability for this tour. Don’t forget: take enough drinking water with you!
